Life in an elevator

I awoke today to a thunderstorm, which may or may not have attributed to the funky dream I was having...

All I really remember was that I was in a large elevator in a very tall building, and I had to get off at one particular floor (for a job, I think), and it just wouldn't stop at my floor. It was a rickety old thing, and it was a scary ride. I definitely am not fond of elevators in general, so I can assume that this was just my fears about them surfacing. But I've had this dream before, where I just can't get off on my floor. That, and the elevator usually plunges downward really fast in my dream, causing me to have that all-too-real sensation of my stomach entering my throat. (How does it manage to feel so real in dreams?)

I mentioned my dream to Bob just now, and he suggested I search the 'net to try and figure out what the elevator thing means, since I've had this dream before. The result is interesting, since this dream is apparently a symbol of what I've been feeling for some time now.

Descending or falling elevators in dreams are usually negative, suggesting anxiety about losing social status or repressed emotions. A dream of being stuck in an elevator (or one that never lets you off) symbolizes that your emotions have gotten out of control. The same is true if you dream about an elevator that is out of order.

To dream of being in an elevator crash is a common dream, which symbolizes some basic fear in the dreamer's life, such as fear of a moral lapse, social inadequacy, loss of status, etc. The prophetic meaning of this dream depends on what happened. If you dreamed of being killed in the crash, you will experience some major and lastings setbacks in your life. However, if you escaped safely or landed without being hurt, your troubles will be upsetting but only temporary.

I never dream of crashing in the elevator, so I guess that's a good thing. ;o) It also seems the elevator thing is a correlation to work life. VERY telling, since I've felt like I've taken like 10 steps backward in my work life in the last few years... :o(
