Love in the Cube

A guy asked his girl to marry him in my store Sunday. Apparently a plan was in the works for a while with this guy, 'cause our business team planned it for him. (I guess he was a Business Customer?) A few of us Blue Shirts got into our street clothes to act as random customers who would get picked for a chance to win an iPod Touch... the unsuspecting girl (I think her name was Shirley?) and her guy were also among those "picked" and led over to the Genius Bar area and given an iPod Touch face down, and told that when we turned it over (when told to), we'd find out if we won. She turned hers over, and it said, "Shirley, will you marry me?" This message was also displayed on the screens above the Genius Bar, as the guy's song of choice played (I'm told it was a tune by Chris Brown! FAIL! LOL). I doubt the chick even heard the song, since the second she saw the proposal and her boyfriend on bended knee, with a huge diamond ring, she started freaking out (in a good way). And said yes.

I bought an everything bagel with cream cheese at Zaro's Bread Basket in Port Authority yesterday morning, and as I was about to pay, the guy behind the counter picked up a boxed assortment of Valentine's cookies and said, "Would you like to get these for your boyfriend... or husband... for Valentine's Day?"

Me: "I don't have either one of those."
Him: "Aw... all the good ones are taken? Isn't that what everyone says?"
Me: "Something like that."
Him: (As he hands me the bag with the bagel) "Well, maybe next year, you'll be able to get one of these for someone special."
Me: "HA!"

I hate Valentine's Day. I hate Christmas the most, but Valentine's comes in second, because like Xmas, there's so much expectation behind it. Out of all the V-Days I've lived through and had a significant other to share it with, only ONE was good, and that was in the late '90s. And we celebrated in a non-traditional way, which is perhaps why it was special and good. Last year I bought candy and a card for my now-ex, and the response I got from him was, "Oh, I didn't know we were doing this." Funny how one day can fuck you up. LOL

Life in an elevator

I awoke today to a thunderstorm, which may or may not have attributed to the funky dream I was having...

All I really remember was that I was in a large elevator in a very tall building, and I had to get off at one particular floor (for a job, I think), and it just wouldn't stop at my floor. It was a rickety old thing, and it was a scary ride. I definitely am not fond of elevators in general, so I can assume that this was just my fears about them surfacing. But I've had this dream before, where I just can't get off on my floor. That, and the elevator usually plunges downward really fast in my dream, causing me to have that all-too-real sensation of my stomach entering my throat. (How does it manage to feel so real in dreams?)

I mentioned my dream to Bob just now, and he suggested I search the 'net to try and figure out what the elevator thing means, since I've had this dream before. The result is interesting, since this dream is apparently a symbol of what I've been feeling for some time now.

Descending or falling elevators in dreams are usually negative, suggesting anxiety about losing social status or repressed emotions. A dream of being stuck in an elevator (or one that never lets you off) symbolizes that your emotions have gotten out of control. The same is true if you dream about an elevator that is out of order.

To dream of being in an elevator crash is a common dream, which symbolizes some basic fear in the dreamer's life, such as fear of a moral lapse, social inadequacy, loss of status, etc. The prophetic meaning of this dream depends on what happened. If you dreamed of being killed in the crash, you will experience some major and lastings setbacks in your life. However, if you escaped safely or landed without being hurt, your troubles will be upsetting but only temporary.

I never dream of crashing in the elevator, so I guess that's a good thing. ;o) It also seems the elevator thing is a correlation to work life. VERY telling, since I've felt like I've taken like 10 steps backward in my work life in the last few years... :o(

Missed by a day but still missed

Drat, I meant to post this yesterday, but whatever... he's still on my mind.

John & Yoko

John Lennon and Yoko Ono came out of 5 years' seclusion to promote their new album, "Double Fantasy," November 21, 1980. They walked around Central Park, posed in front of the Dakota apartment house, and worked in Studio One, Yoko's office.
